Trying to conceive the distance to Proxima Centauri, by walking

FeaturedIt's a dark nightIt's a dark night

A singularly fun reality where sometimes could be preferred to have a faulty calculator or a bad day clicking buttons, because the number that appears looks awful.

Some people go faster and it could mean a difference of about a bunch of million years, but let's assume an average of 5 km/h and then, with this pace the time required goes other time very high.

Anyway, it serves to understand how incredibly big is that tiny, tiny portion of the Universe that separates our solar system from another ones. And yes, if 100 km/h means 45 million years, 5 km/h are 900 million years walking! If around the World it's about 40.000 kilometers, at 5 km/h means less than one year.
